Cleaning an oil paint palette is an essential part of maintaining your painting materials. By using an alcohol spray and a flat blade scraper, you can effectively remove dried oil paint from your palette. Remember to work in a well-ventilated area, wear gloves, and take necessary safety precautions. Regular cleaning will not only extend the life of your palette but also ensure your colors stay true and vibrant during your creative process. These instructions are for glass paint palettes.

Materials Needed:

  • Alcohol Spray (Isopropyl alcohol)

  • Flat blade scraper (plastic or metal blade)

  • Paper Towels and Baby Wipes

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Palette:

  • Start by removing any excess paint from the palette using a palette knife or a brush. Dispose of the excess paint properly.

  • If the paint is still wet, wipe it off with a paper towel or cloth.

Spray Alcohol:

  • Generously spray the alcohol onto the surface of the palette. The alcohol will help loosen the dried oil paint.

Let the Alcohol Sit:

  • Allow the alcohol to sit on the palette for a few minutes, giving it time to penetrate and soften the paint.

Scrape the Paint:

  • Take the flat-blade scraper and gently scrape off the softened paint from the palette.

  • Start at one edge of the palette and carefully work your way across, applying gentle pressure. Avoid scratching the palette surface.

Wipe and Repeat:

  • After scraping off the paint, wipe the palette with a baby wipe or paper towel to remove any remaining residue.

  • If there are stubborn spots, spray alcohol on those areas again and repeat the scraping process.

  • Wipe entire palette surface with a baby wipe for a final clean then dry with a paper towel.
